Marrinson Group, based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, hired Sherman Construction for design, preconstruction and construction services for the construction of 14 Senior Living Duplex Cottages. These cottages were to be located around the existing Independent Living Facility and Assisted Living Facility, known as Cumberland Village, located in Aiken, SC. These duplexes consisted of four models strategically located across the campus based on rental type demand and property boundaries. Residents of these duplexes would have full access to all amenities and dining at the main campus.
The duplexes were wood framed construction with cementitious siding and brick veneer on the exterior walls and shingle roof. The lots were graded to allow back and front porches and private garages. Each unit had individual utilities such as gas, water and cable TV. The construction schedule was 14 months, with a phased opening to allow partial occupancy of the first building to begin at month eight.
